The CrossFit Open
The CrossFit Open is almost here! The 3 week Open kicks off with the first workout later this month on February 24th. This means Imperial will be hosting Friday Night Lights for it's members for 3 Fridays; on February 25th, March 4th and March 11th. Registration is open now and we're asking athletes to sign up by Friday, Feb 18th. More info on what to expect is below.
What is the Open?
For those of you newer to CrossFit (or who just haven't participated in the Open before) The Open is the beginning of the CrossFit games season and is a great way to test and retest your fitness level. It's an international experience unique to CrossFit gyms and communities.
This year the CrossFit Open is a three-week, three-workout competition held in CrossFit affiliates, garage gyms, and homes around the world. Workouts are released each Thursday evening and athletes have until the following Monday to do the workout and submit their scores online. There are ‘scaled’, ‘rx’ and 'foundations' workout options, so athletes of any fitness level can participate.
Registration costs $20+ tax and can be an incredibly rewarding experience to test and track your fitness.

Open Schedule
Workouts are titled as the ‘Year.Week’ – so if it’s week 3 in the 2022 Open the workout will be labeled ‘22.3’
22.1: Feb 24-28
22.2: Mar 3-7
22.3: Mar 10-14
What is Friday Night Lights at Imperial?
To add in some healthy competition, mutual encouragement, and a ton more fun, Imperial will run 'Friday Night Lights'. Instead of holding our typical class schedules on Friday afternoons, we'll open up Triib for 30 minute time slots, so you can sign up for the workout, have someone 'judge you' (only needed if you've officially signed up for the Open) and other Imperial athletes can cheer you on.
What will this look like week to week?
Friday morning classes will be our typical 5:30am & 8am class times and the wod programmed will be the Open workout for that week. Friday Night Lights will begin at 3pm – with various heats running from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Feel free to bring food, drinks, coolers, etc. as it’s fun to hang around to cheer on others that are competing or participate as a judge if you decide to take the online judges course. Please make sure to RSVP for a time slot on Triib to show up and do the workout.
In previous years we've also had some additional fun, and taken all Imperial athletes that signed up online for the Open and broken them into teams with various ways to score points (for example, wearing your team's color on Friday, showing up for FNL, top scorers for men's and women's rx and scaled divisions, team spirit, etc.)
When/How to Sign up
First, register at the CrossFit HQ website: https://games.crossfit.com/register/open
Next, add your name to the back whiteboard at the gym.
*Please sign up no later than Friday, February 18th so that Imperial teams can be finalized prior to the first workout.
If you have any questions, feel free to chat with any of the coaches or email crossfitimperial@gmail.com
We look forward to competing with you, having some fun in the coming weeks and seeing what awesome things you do in the 2022 Open!

Imperial CrossFit had a large turnout to honor fallen Officer Diego Moreno. We appreciate all that came out to honor and pay tribute to the service he gave and who donated to help support his family. With the help of all of you, we were able to collect over $1,000 in donations for the Moreno family.
