Meet the Coaches
'Pops' Rich Riess
I started CrossFit in 2011. I was 50 pounds heavier, could not do 5 push ups, ate poorly, and used a blue band for a year and to do pull ups. I kept coming back. In 2014 i was 27th in the world after the CrossFit online qualifier. I never would dream that my future would lead me to a point where I was helping people reach their fitness goals. I love watching them progress, gain confidence, become healthy, and PR in and outside of the Gym. My life is better because I CrossFit, and hopefully I can help others with their fitness goals. I became a level 1 Coach in late 2012, and a level 2 coach in 2017. I have I certification for CrossFit in Mobility, Scaling and judging.
I played sports through school and was always a member of a gym but never found a gym / sport that I loved as much as Crossfit. I started at Imperial Crossfit late 2010 after my boyfriend (now husband) talked about how awesome it is. I knew quickly that the community aspect makes it so successful and I absolutely love that. I quickly found a passion in seeing and helping others achieve their goals, hitting milestone after milestone, so I went for my Level 1 in August 2011. I have also received my Olympic Lifting and Mobility Certifications. Loving the sport so much I have competed in local competitions as well as been a judge at the Crossfit Regional Competition several times. I had my son Liam in 2016 and want to see him experience the Crossfit community and hope he has the same passion for it that I do!
Trever became a certified CrossFit trainer in New York 6 years ago and currently holds his CFL-1, CFL-2, CF-Gymnastics, CF-Judges, CF- Scaling certifications. Becoming a gym owner has been a goal of Trever’s as health and physical fitness is not just a passion, but a way of life for he and his family that includes his wife Dija, twin daughters Kayla and Khloe, and his dog Rx. As a former professional hockey player, Trever understands the importance of hard work, technique and doing what you love. Trever’s energy and enthusiasm is contagious and making even the toughest of workouts fun. As a gym owner, Trever is excited to make Imperial CrossFit a thriving part of the Kent Community.
When my son was born twelve years ago, I was 60 pounds overweight with high blood pressure and had not worked out since high school sports. Initially I started running and restricted my calories to drop the weight. Over time the running went from a few 5Ks to several 20-mile trail runs a year. The weight dropped as I jumped from fad diet to fad diet but still didn’t have the strength I wanted. In 2013, I started CrossFit to supplement my running. I joined Imperial when we moved to Kent and now I run to supplement CrossFit. I’ve participated in multiple CrossFit competitions and look forward to the open every year. CrossFit has brought back my competitive side, something I’ve missed since high school sports. I earned my CF-L1 in December of 2017 and started coaching directly after. I enjoy coaching and am extremely passionate about nutrition.
I have been crossfitting since 2013. I received my CF L-1 in February 2014. The best part of every day is when I get to come to the gym. I have heard crossfit described as active meditation; during each wod my mind clears. The peace of mind, getting bigger and faster, and the awesome people are what keep me coming back.
My favorite wods include muscle ups, handstand walks, double-unders and/or running.
My least favorite wods involve sprints of any kind (i.e. Fran) and/or swimming.
