Meet our coaches
Owner, CF-L1, CF-Olympic Lifting, Regional Qualifier
I started CrossFit back in 2010 and was hooked after just one class. I was so passionate about it, I opened CrossFit Federal Way in 2011. In 2017 I sold that gym, but was still active and passionate about CrossFit and soon realized just how much I missed coaching athletes every day, writing workouts and having direct ownership in something that helped people to find fitness and health in their lives. After doing this for many years and meeting and coaching hundreds if not thousands of amazing clients, the one thing I consistently hear is the regret that people have that they didn’t start sooner. CrossFit changes lives in so many ways. Body, soul and mind. Come see me and let me give you the gift of CrossFit.
I had a friend that started CrossFit before me and tried for about a year to talk me into trying it. Because of the intimidation factor I shied away. However, the day I came in for my first wod I was hooked...and now I'm a gym owner! CrossFit has changed my life. I've always loved working out and have done numerous different activities from running to bootcamp to swimming, but never found something that has been able to keep me coming back day after day. I love the way that workouts change each and every day and you never quite know what you'll be getting yourself into. I also love that the gym becomes not only a place to get fit and healthy, but is also a place where you make and keep great friends. At Imperial as one of the owners, I'm now excited to share my love of CrossFit with others!
Owner, CF-L1, CF-L2, CF-Gymnastics, CF-Judges, CF- Scaling
I became a certified CrossFit trainer in New York 6 years ago and currently hold my CF-L1, CF-L2, CF-Gymnastics, CF-Judges, CF- Scaling certifications. Becoming a gym owner has been a long time goal of mine as health and physical fitness is not just a passion, but a way of life for me and my family (my wife Dija, twin daughters Kayla and Khloe, and our dog Rx). As a former professional hockey player, I understand the importance of hard work, technique and doing what you love. I have ongoing energy and enthusiasm for CrossFit and I love pumping people up even through the toughest of workouts. As a gym owner, I'm excited to make Imperial CrossFit a thriving part of the Kent Community.
I played sports through school and was always a member of a gym but never found a gym / sport that I loved as much as Crossfit. I started at Imperial Crossfit late 2010 after my boyfriend (now husband) talked about how awesome it is. I knew quickly that the community aspect makes it so successful and I absolutely love that. I quickly found a passion in seeing and helping others achieve their goals, hitting milestone after milestone, so I went for my Level 1 in August 2011. I have also received my Olympic Lifting and Mobility Certifications. Loving the sport so much I have competed in local competitions as well as been a judge at the Crossfit Regional Competition several times. I had my son Liam in 2016 and want to see him experience the Crossfit community and hope he has the same passion for it that I do!
'Pops' Rich Riess
I started CrossFit in 2011. I was 50 pounds heavier, could not do 5 push ups, ate poorly, and used a blue band for a year and to do pull ups. I kept coming back. In 2014 i was 27th in the world after the CrossFit online qualifier. I never would dream that my future would lead me to a point where I was helping people reach their fitness goals. I love watching them progress, gain confidence, become healthy, and PR in and outside of the Gym. My life is better because I CrossFit, and hopefully I can help others with their fitness goals. I became a level 1 Coach in late 2012, and a level 2 coach in 2017. I have I certification for CrossFit in Mobility, Scaling and judging.
When my son was born twelve years ago, I was 60 pounds overweight with high blood pressure and had not worked out since high school sports. Initially I started running and restricted my calories to drop the weight. Over time the running went from a few 5Ks to several 20-mile trail runs a year. The weight dropped as I jumped from fad diet to fad diet but still didn’t have the strength I wanted. In 2013, I started CrossFit to supplement my running. I joined Imperial when we moved to Kent and now I run to supplement CrossFit. I’ve participated in multiple CrossFit competitions and look forward to the open every year. CrossFit has brought back my competitive side, something I’ve missed since high school sports. I earned my CF-L1 in December of 2017 and started coaching directly after. I enjoy coaching and am extremely passionate about nutrition.
